What is the Kōkako?
The kōkako is a native bird of Aotearoa, known for its rich, echoing call that travels through the ngahere. It moves with intention, often leaping from branch to branch, showing strength through patience and control.
Significance for Rangatira
The Rangatira represents mastery of presence and purpose. This taonga reflects leadership that is calm, assured, and grounded in identity. Like the kōkako, it reminds us that true strength lies in how we carry ourselves and the lasting impact we leave behind.
What is a koikoi?
Traditionally, the koikoi was a long spear sharpened on both ends, used with a two-handed grip to strike and parry.
At Tekotiri, each taonga carries its own mauri, reminding us that every journey is unique. More than rākau, they are pathways of connection, guiding whānau back to their whakapapa and forward into their own journey.
